CHARACTERISTICS

  • Adults are boat-shaped beetles with bright colors and metallic luster.
  • Strong fliers actively seek weak or injured trees to infest.
  • Larvae have conspicous widening and flattening of the thorax just behind the head (flat-headed borers).
  • Larval tinnels are broadely oval, about three times as broad as high
  • Tunnels are tightly packed with fine frass.
  • If adults happen to emerge within buildings, they will not re-infest structural timbers.
