The German cockroach is the most common cockroach species in Texas. This cockroach is light brown with two dark stripes running lengthwise on the head and thorax. Adult males and females are winged but rarely fly. They are about 1/2 inch long.
German roaches thrive in all types of buildings and often are found in kitchens in homes and commercial food establishments. Of the commonly encountered cockroach species, German cockroaches produce the most offspring. The female carries its egg capsule until just before the nymphs hatch.
